Maran For 15 More Textile Parks

The textile ministry has urged the finance ministry to permit them establish 15 additional textile parks under Skill for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) in the country.
According to the textile minister, Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, under the SITP, initially only 40 textile park projects were sanctioned. But, with the urgency of promoting the textile industry, a proposal has been sent to the finance ministry to allow setting up of 15 more parks.

While the proposal is still under consideration by the finance ministry, Mr. Maran informed that permission to set up 40 parks was given for the 10th and 11th plans of which, 17 are already operational.
Meanwhile, Mr. Maran has ruled out a blanked ban on cotton exports, but said he would press the finance ministry for a hike in export duty to check prices of the natural fibre.
'We need some kind of calibration in (cotton) exports,' he said. On the impact of the European debt prices on Indian textile exports, Mr. Maran said exporters still have 'one foot in the grave' despite a moderate recovery in the 2009-10 fiscal.
